Privacy & Cookies

Last updated 22 October 2026

This page explains what happens to the details you share with The Quiet Calligrapher, and the cookies this website does and doesn’t use.

Who is responsible for your details

The Quiet Calligrapher, run by Aliya in Birmingham, is responsible for the personal details you send (“we” and “us” below). You can reach us at hello@thequietcalligrapher.com.

What we collect

When you send an enquiry through this website, we receive your name, your email address, your phone number if you give it, the service you choose and your message. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever your email contains.

We don’t ask for anything else, and this website doesn’t follow you as you browse it.

How we use it

We use your details only to reply to your enquiry and, if you go ahead, to arrange and provide what you’ve asked for. We never sell them, and we won’t send you marketing unless you ask us to.

We do this because you’ve asked us to (so we can take the steps you’ve requested before agreeing any work), and because we have a legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us.

Who else handles it

A few services handle your details for us:

  • Web3Forms (Web3Creative, India) delivers the enquiry form to our inbox. It checks enquiries for spam, using CleanTalk and Akismet, and keeps a copy for up to three years. Its privacy policy
  • hCaptcha (Intuition Machines, Inc., USA) runs the “I am human” check on the form. To tell people from bots, it looks at how you use the page, such as mouse movements, taps and key presses, and at your IP address, browser and device. Its privacy policy
  • IONOS hosts our email.
  • Vercel (Vercel Inc., USA) hosts this website. Like any web host, it records visitors’ IP addresses to deliver pages and keep the site secure. Its privacy policy

Some of these services handle your details outside the UK. Their privacy policies explain how they protect them when they do.

How long we keep it

We keep your enquiry for as long as we need it to reply and, if you book, to provide your order or lessons. After that we delete it, apart from any records the law requires us to keep, such as for tax.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the details we hold about you, and ask us to correct them, delete them or stop using them. Email hello@thequietcalligrapher.com and we’ll reply within a month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

This website doesn’t set any cookies of its own, and it doesn’t use analytics, advertising or social media trackers.

When you scroll down to the enquiry form, hCaptcha’s “I am human” check loads. hCaptcha and Cloudflare, which protects it, may then set security cookies such as __cf_bm, which lasts 30 minutes and helps tell people from bots. These cookies are strictly necessary to protect the form from spam, so they don’t need your consent. Some browsers, such as Safari, block them anyway.

The Instagram, TikTok and Etsy links take you to those websites, which have their own privacy and cookie policies.
